How to play Onedle
Each Onedle puzzle shows one to three clue words. Every clue has been colored as if it were a Wordle guess at a hidden answer. Your job is to find that answer.
The colors
AGreen: this letter is in the answer, in exactly this position.
AYellow: this letter is in the answer, but somewhere else.
AGray: this letter isn't in the answer (or, if the same letter appears elsewhere in the clue, there are no more copies of it; see Repeated letters).
A first example
Read it letter by letter. P, N and T are green, so the answer is P _ _ N T. A is yellow: the answer contains an A, but not in the second position. I is gray, so there's no I anywhere.
The only open positions are the second and third. A can't go second, so it goes third, leaving one letter for second place. Try a few: PLANT fits, and so does no other common word with that pattern once you rule out the I. The answer is PLANT.
Every puzzle in the app is built so the clues point to exactly one common English word. You never need to guess between two equally good answers.
Entering your answer
Type your answer with the on-screen or physical keyboard and submit it. There's no limit on guesses: a wrong answer simply shakes and you can try again. A puzzle ends only when you solve it, or when you choose Show Answer to give up.
Puzzles to play
- Daily triplet. Three five-letter puzzles each day, easy, medium and hard, the same for every player. Finishing all three records your day in your stats and keeps your streak.
- Bonus triplet. Three harder daily puzzles with six-, seven- and eight-letter answers. Optional, and not counted toward your streak.
- Practice. Extra puzzles any time, in Easy, Medium and Hard sections.
